Children’s Clinic’s annual Celebrity Chefs event is Friday


CLAYTON — Sweet, spicy and savory appetizers, desserts and main courses will be served Friday at the North Country Children’s Clinic’s annual Celebrity Chefs event at the Clayton Opera House, 405 Riverside Drive.

The gala will feature recipes from Coyote Moon Vineyard owners Philip J. and Mary Randazzo, USO Fort Drum Director Karen M. Clark, Samaritan Medical Center Foundation Director Elizabeth C. Fipps, Freeman Bus Corp. and Clarence Henry Coach owner Robert C. Freeman III, Timeless Frames Chief Executive Officer Lisa A. Weber, and Bernier, Carr & Associates CEO Bernard H. Brown Jr. and his wife, Beverly.

“We’ll be handing out recipe cards in case guests want to take home any recipes our guest chefs have,” said Sarah M. Colligan, clinic development and outreach manager.

Those recipes include a sweet and spicy corn salad, miniature mac-and-cheese cups, stuffed puffs, casa-papa meatballs, brownie bourbon balls and chicken satays. There also will be catered items of pork tenderloin, prime rib, rolls and gourmet condiments from Bella’s.

Food will be served by local celebrity wait staff, including people featured in NNY Business’s “20 Under 40” issue, Jefferson Leadership Institute members and other influential people in the community.

Miss Colligan said funds raised will offset medical and dental expenses for children and their families at the clinic, 238 Arsenal St., Watertown.

The evening will feature a silent auction with many items, including a 58-by-27-inch hanging quilt, titled “River Trees,” donated by featured artist and quilter Mary B. Knapp. Other items include a Maine getaway package, a kayak, a pair of handmade Adirondack chairs, a two-hour guided fishing tour with Bill Saiff, a wine-and-cheese cruise and a golf trip for two at Rustic Golf and Country Club, Pillar Point, among other items.

Miss Colligan, who was part of the celebrity wait staff at the 2012 event when she worked for WWNY-TV7, said she can attest to the event’s fun atmosphere.

Last year, the event raised $37,000, and the clinic hopes to net about $39,000 this year.

The event is made possible through support of sponsor Martin’s Point Health Care and dozens of local contributors.

Tickets are available at $75 each, but people must preregister for the event by sending an email to Miss Colligan at by Thursday.
