An online petition to support preservation of programs and patient capacity at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center has been established by state Senator Patricia A. Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, with the support of community leaders.
Visitors to the site www.savethecenter.net may add comments about the centers importance to north country health care, as well as the regions economy. Mrs. Ritchie said in a news release Tuesday that the comments will be shared at the state Office of Mental Healths May 15 listening tour session at the center.
St. Lawrence Psych Center needs the communitys support as the state seeks to streamline its system of mental health care, to make Albany aware of the north countrys unique challenges of health care access, the tradition of quality service provided by the center, and the important role that it plays in improving the quality of life in our region, she said.
The website also includes news, updates, and a link to register to attend the OMH meeting, being held from 10 a.m. at noon at the psychiatric centers Unity Center, 1 Chimney Drive.
Also Tuesday, Assemblywoman Adddie J. Russell, D-Theresa, announced she would be speaking at the May 15 meeting in support of the center.
