MASSENA — State police on Tuesday arrested a Norfolk man after he allegedly lied to authorities about a home invasion as a cover for a drunken rampage.

Nathaniel W. Dodson, 31, faces charges of second-degree burglary, third-degree falsely reporting an incident, issuing a false written statement, unlawfully growing cannabis, unlawful possession of marijuana and tampering with physical evidence.

Troopers said Mr. Dodson was home alone on the afternoon of April 26 when he entered a house mate’s room without permission and stole liquor. He then became intoxicated and caused unspecified damage inside the house, troopers said.

When Mr. Dodson’s wife came home, he falsely informed her that two unknown males entered the residence, assaulted him and caused damage, troopers said. Her name was not released. She then called 911, relaying to a dispatcher the information Mr. Dodson was telling her, state police said.

With police en route to the home, Mr. Dodson hurriedly destroyed some marijuana plants he had been growing, troopers said.

He later gave a false written statement concerning the incident, according to state police.

Mr. Dodson was arraigned in Massena Village Court and committed to the St. Lawrence County Jail, Canton, in lieu of $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond.
