A sports bar will open in Ogdensburgs marina district this summer.
The city planning and development board on Tuesday voted 7-0 in favor of both preliminary and final site plan approval for Club 1812 at 110-113 Lake St., site of the defunct Bone Shakers lounge.
I hope to be open June 1, said co-owner Terry E. Axtell II.
Mr. Axtell said he was attracted to the building and the area because the marina district, he believes, is a neighborhood on the rise.
Its starting to pick up down there, he said.
Board chairman Timothy J. Redmond agreed, predicting a fully-revitalized marina district in 10 to 20 years.
It just takes time for things to materialize, he said.
Mr. Axtell said he named the bar in honor of the citys War of 1812 heritage, a reference to the Battle of Ogdensburgh in February 1813.
Mr. Axtell plans to install two golf simulators in the bar.
There will be 35 paved and striped parking spaces. Twelve of them will be located in a lot next to the building. The others will be set in behind the building in a 54-foot-by-90-foot city-owned lot that Mr. Axtell has offered to buy.
Mr. Redmond was joined in favor of approval by Linda E. Pellett, Sean OBrien, Michael P. Frary, Joshua K. Blair, Frank Perretta and Paul Stevenson.
