PARISHVILLE - The Norwood-Norfolk varsity baseball team posted a rain-shortened NAC East Division sweep on the road over Parishville-Hopkinton on Wednesday.
The Flyers pulled away to a 15-1 decision in the first five-inning game the led 9-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning before a late afternoon thunderstorm brought an early end to the nightcap.
In the opening game, Brandon Short fanned 11 and walked none in tossing a three-hitter for the win. Wyatt Snell had two strikeouts and four walks in taking the loss.
Cody Smith had a three-run homerun in what turned out to be a decisive nine-run barrage in the fourth inning and came around to score a total of three times to spark the Flyer offense. Cody Rust doubled, drove in two runs and scored another while Chris Prashaw and Kyle MacIntire both singled and scored twice.
Justin Frank singled home Snell in the bottom of the fifth with the lone P-H run. Snell and Mike Cook had the other Panther hits.
The second game saw the Flyers built a 9-0 lead through three innings as Smith worked the first three innings on the hill to earn the win, striking out eight, walking none and allowing no hits. Mike Waite came on to pitch the fourth. Ryan Snyder and Mike Cook combined to pitch for the Panthers.
Short singled twice and drove in a run to anchor the Flyer offense in the nightcap. Smith doubled and scored two runs while RJ Bendt singled and scored twice as well.
As was the case in the first game, Frank singled home Snell in the final P-H at-bat to account for the lone run after Snell had reached base on the other Panther hit.
In other NAC East matchups on Wednesday, Brushton-Moira swept a pair from St. Regis Falls 23-0, 8-0 and Chateaugay hosted Madrid-Waddington.
B-M 23-8, SRF 0-0: The only information received on Brushton-Moiras two-game sweep in St. Regis Falls were the scores and the two winning pitchers..
The Panthers won the opening game 23-0, as it was called after the second inning with Zach Burnett getting credit for the win.
The second game was an 8-0 win by B-M with Trent Gary earning the win.
The two wins improve the BMC record to 8-2 on the season while the double loss drops SRF to 1-8.

Zach Wilby went the distance on the mound for the win, striking out nine and scattering three hits as the modified Flyers pulled away to a 16-0 decision over Parishville-Hopkinton on Wednesday.
Gage Orogolio, Riley Smutz (2 doubles, 3RBI), Zach Benware (triple, 2RBI) and Sidney Belmore (2RBI) all connected for two hits in the winning effort. Caleb Bresett, Peter Jarvis (double, RBI), and Zach Harvey each finished with solo hits while Judson Colbert was twice hit by a pitch.
Now 8-0, the modified Flyers take on Chateaugay on Friday.
