Gov. Andrew Cuomo said, Even legislative bills get in the way of legislating in Albany. Why is our state government so secretive in the legislative process? They are making closed-door deals while keeping New York citizens in the dark until a bill is law. This is how the Safe Act and many other controversial bills are being passed. Why is this their mode of operation?
Gov. Cuomo has also said: When we release bill language before an agreement, the probability of the bill passing is very, very low. Is this why this governor and previous ones abuse the message of necessity so often? Since 2003 our New York governors have used message of necessity to get their bills passed without public vetting 413 times. We did not elect a dictator, yet that is how our governor is running his office.
There have been several news articles pointing out that Gov. Cuomo wants to change the state constitution. He wants to change it because he does not want to obey the rules. We have elected the people in office, and we are their employer. I expect the elected officials to respect the constitution, since they swore an oath to uphold it, not to ignore the rules for their convenience. Though they operate in secret, we voters eventually find out how all this bad legislation that nobody wants is becoming law. I for one will hold them accountable. I have a long memory and my vote counts. Yours does too.
