LOWVILLE An oxygen supply leak early Friday morning at Lewis County General Hospital officials caused some surgical rescheduling but no major problems.
The staff acted promptly to ensure patient safety was not compromised, hospital CEO Eric R. Burch said in a release. At no time were patients or residents without an adequate oxygen supply.
The leak was detected at about 2 a.m., and local police and fire authorities responded quickly to assist with traffic control and securing of the area.
As a safety precaution, ambulatory surgeries were canceled, but all other hospital services were not affected.
The leak was repaired, and the hospital resumed regular operations by late Friday morning.
A backup oxygen supply is maintained for emergency purposes and may be used for four to five days, if needed, hospital officials said.
