Carthage-West Carthage treatment plant to increase rates

CARTHAGE — The Carthage-West Carthage Water Pollution Control Facilities management board approved its budget and agreed to rate and testing schedule changes during the April 17 meeting.

The board approved increases of 0.25 of a cent per gallon to the outside hauler rates, which raises the leachate rate to 1.25 cents and the septage rate to 3.25 cents. Carrie Tuttle, engineering director for the Development Authority of the North Country, said the rates are comparable to the city of Watertown’s, which are 2.5 cents for leachate and 3 cents for septage. Special waste requests will be evaluated by the chief plant operator on an individual basis.

The rate changes will be effective June 1.

The board recommended acceptance of its $1,282,260 tentative budget to both villages.
