Business group chooses young entrepreneur of year

CANTON — Demonstrating long-term success and an increase in his north country company’s sales and profits, 21-year-old Matthew S. Turcotte of Clayton has been selected as the 2013 SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Founder and president of North Shore Solutions, a web development company with offices in Potsdam and Clayton, Mr. Turcotte was nominated by the Watertown Small Business Development Center and selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Syracuse district for his demonstrated long-term potential as a successful business owner.

By the end of his junior year in high school, his business won the top prize at a local business concept competition for high school students and he published his first book, “From Main Street to Mainstream: The Essential Steps to Launching Your Small Town Business Online.”

Mr. Turcotte received the Syracuse district award at SBA’s annual awards luncheon May 6 at the DoubleTree Hotel in East Syracuse.
