SLC, Massena boys lacrosse teams surge past NAC foes


POTSDAM - The St. Lawrence Central varsity lacrosse team relayed a fast start into a convincing 17-5 win on the road over Potsdam Central in NAC action on Friday.

Lukas Arquiett (3 assists), Blake Baldwin (2 assists) and Marshall Burninghausen generated four goals apiece to spark the Larries who bolted out to a 6-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and went into halftime leading 10-2. Ian Lynch fashioned two goals and five assists while Cody Burns accounted for the other three goals and Brody Simonds earned a solo helper.

Adam Lewis paced the Sandstoners with three goals. Kyle Grant and Sam Woods struck for the other goals while Chris Stone and David Caamano each logged an assist.

Kody Kocsis made 12 saves working the crease for the win while Jason Cardinal (10 saves) and Chase Palmer (3 saves) combined to backstop the Potsdam cause.

Both teams are slated to end the regular season with their next outings as the Larries (11-2) play host to Canton on Friday and the Sandstoners (7-8, 6-7) play at Salmon River on Thursday. Both games face-off at 4:30 p.m.

In the other NAC boys lacrosse matchups on Tuesday, Massena outscored Saranac Lake 19-9 and Canton turned back Colton-Pierrepont 12-6.

Massena 19, Saranac Lake 9: At Mike Nicholas Field, the Raiders closed out their NAC season by pulling away from a 10-3 halftime lead for the win over the Red Storm.

Grayson Phillips sparked the Massena attack with eight goals and three assists. Jordy Mitchell tallied four goals and two helpers while Sako Rourke chipped in two goals and one assist. Rhoades Tarbell (3 assists), Tyler Simms and Ryan Moffitt broke through for the other goals while Dalton Mullin tallied a solo assist.

Seth Pickering anchored the Saranac Lake offense with four goals and an assist. Jeff Stevens struck for a pair of goals while Oliver Holmes, Casey DiNicola and Quinn Urquhart accounted for the other goals.

Kyle Cooke went the distance between the pipes for the Raiders and turned aside 13 shots. Mike Burpoe (15 saves) combined with Jacob Merrill (5 saves) combined to work the Red Storm crease.

The Raiders (9-6, 8-6) will finish out the regular season on Thursday with a non-league game at home against Northwood Prep before heading into the New York State tournament as the lone Class B program in Section 10.

Canton 12, Colton-Pierrepont 6: In the other NAC contest of the day staged in Canton, Jake Facey and Josh Pierson netted three goals apiece to lead the Bears past the Colts. Jack Elberty contributed two goals and two assists toward the winning effort. Peyton Vanbibber also scored twice while Brandon Rodee chipped in a goal and assist.

Gyle Dominy led the Colts with four goals. while Cody Green and Patrick Paul netted the others.

Nate Gibson and Andrew McCormick made two saves each splitting crease duties for Canton while Craig Miller turned aside 15 shots in the regular season finale for the Colts (0-15, 0-14).


The lone NAC girls lacrosse game slated for Tuesday saw Potsdam Central reportedly awarded a forfeit win over Salmon River.
