ALEXANDRIA BAY The community has asked for, and soon will receive, more frequent communications about River Hospital.
Most of the 600 residents along the St. Lawrence River that the hospital surveyed in December 2010 requested the hospital be more engaged in communications with them. Ben Moore III, chief executive officer, said progress with that has been slow since the hospital has had a part-time public relations representative until now.
Andrea C. Bates, who had the part-time marketing position and was part-time executive director of development for the River Hospital Foundation, has been named the full-time director of marketing and community relations for the hospital.
The need to communicate has increased since weve added positions, Mr. Moore said. We need to do more consistent communications with the public. When we talked to some people, they werent aware of some of the new things were doing. We want to be more assertive in getting our message out.
He said as the hospital makes more investments, a more rapid volume increase of patient visits is needed. Additional outreach efforts will make that happen, Mr. Moore said.
Mrs. Bates said the transition for her was logical.
The beautiful thing is I can still be a resource to the foundation, she said.
She began her new role this week and is responsible for establishing overall marketing, advertising, public relations and communication objectives for River Hospital, according to a hospital news release.
Mrs. Bates has been with the Hospital Foundation since April 2011. Before that, she worked for six years as alumni development officer and community service coordinator at Jefferson Community College, Watertown.
She has a bachelors degree in psychology and business from Houghton College.
