CARTHAGE – Alma L. Miller, 71, 36547 Jackson II Road, died early Thursday morning at her home, under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County. She fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past three and a half years.
Alma was born in Canton, NY on November 15, 1941, the daughter of Andrew & Flora Taylor Caswell. She was a 1959 graduate of Canton High School and a 1961 graduate of Canton ATC. She married Richard L. Miller on September 17, 1961 at the Canton First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Bower officiating. Mr. & Mrs. Miller operated dairy farms in Copenhagen and on the Martin Street Rd. in Carthage until 1997. Alma was a member of the Argonauts, a Deacon of the Deer River Congregational Church, a member of the Ladies Fellowship and a former 4-H instructor. She loved golf, cross country skiing, cooking and gardening. She also enjoyed spending time at her cottage on Pleasant Lake. Her favorite times were spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, at home, as well as her son, Mark Miller, Lake Bonaparte, a daughter and son in law, Julie & Richard Chisholm, Carthage, and her son and daughter in law, Zach & Joan Miller, Natural Bridge, 7 grandchildren; Taylor & Heather Miller, Alicia , Marissa and Joshua Chisholm and Morgan & Garrett Miller. Also surviving are her siblings and their spouses; Helen Downey & Don, Star Lake, Dorothy& James Morrison, Canton, Arlene & Edwin Perrigo, Richville, Iona & Bill Brewer, Canton, Alson & Maryanne Caswell, Heuvelton, Karl & Peggy Caswell, Canton, Arvilla & Vernon Aldous, Canton, Leda Perkins, Port Richie, Florida, George & Diana Caswell, Canton and Keith & Sue Caswell, Madrid, her sister in law, Mary Lou Caswell and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by her brother, Orrin and her sister, Alberta.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 20, at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, with the Rev. Chris Paine, Pastor of the Deer River Congreational Church and the Rev. Loren Widrick, Sr., officiating.
