LOWVILLE – Bruce C. Poulsen, 59, of West Road, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, May 16, 2013, at the emergency room of Lewis County General Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service in Martinsburg Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife Cecelia; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Kathryn Poulsen of Watertown; two step-daughters and their husbands, Angela and Ron Brett, and their daughters, Brianna and Alexis, of Holley, NY; Karen and Todd Smith, and their daughter Madeline, of Churchville, NY; his mother-in-law, Audrey Pratt of Theresa; a sister-in-law, Cynthia Reardon of Adams; a brother-in-law and his wife, Fred and Joni Pratt of Warren, OH; an aunt and uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, and his father-in-law, Fred Pratt, Sr.
Bruce was born on July 6, 1953 in Lowville, a son of the late Victor and Ada Stanton Poulsen. He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1971. Bruce took over the family dairy farm, and operated it until 1988. He continued his education at Jefferson Community College, graduating in 1993. In 1994, he graduated from Syracuse University at Utica College with a Bachelors degree in accounting, and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1996. While he was attending college, he worked in the accounting department at Stebbins Engineering, and joined his brother at Poulsen and Podvin in 1996. At the time of his death, Bruce was a partner in the accounting firm. On May 3, 2008, he married Cecelia Pratt at West Martinsburg United Methodist Church. Their marriage was later blessed at St. Peters Catholic Church, Lowville, by Rev. Christopher Looby. Marriages to Nancy Czerwinski and Margaret Jones ended in divorce.
Bruce was a member and Treasurer of the Martinsburg Fire Department for 20 years. He was a member of B.P.O.E. 1605, Lowville Lodge, a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a member of the Society for the Preservation of West Martinsburg United Methodist Church.
Bruce loved to watch professional sports, and enjoyed attending NASCAR races. He played basketball on the over 30 team for several years. Bruce enjoyed working in his garden, yard work, and caring for his five cats.
