HAMMOND - A two-run homerun by Hannah Thornhill and a solo homerun by Paige McCormick, back to back in a five-run first inning, sparked Heuvelton past Hammond, 10-1,and a perfect 14-0 NAC West Softball season.
Alexis Sawyer finished with a double and a single and two runs scored for Heuvelton (16-2 overall) with a possible nonleague game with OFA before entering the Section 10 Tournament as likely the No. 1 seed. Rachel Thornhill added two singles and several assists from thirdbase. Hannah Thornhill also singled while Alicia LaRose (RBI), Ali Scalone, Shelby Williams each singled and Logan Tallman doubled.
Taylor Bowman singled and scored in the second inning for Hammond (9-5). Alyssa Crosby, Emily Bush, Bridget Kron, and Macy Wilsonh singled. Alexis Weidner tossed complete game five hitter and Mikayla Horton went the distance for Hammond.
Edwards-Knox (10-6, 8-5 NAC West) edged visiting Lisbon (10-4) 2-1 while Morristown (4-10) kept its sectional hopes alive in a 10-0 decision over Clifton-Fine (2-12) Hermon-DeKalb (4-12, 3-10), also in the playoff scenario with outside help, dropped (5-11, 5-9 NAC West) Harrisville 12-8.
On Monday, Edwards-Knox and Hermon-DeKalb meet in a make-up contest.
E-K 2, Lisbon 1: Sarah Rice singled home Sam Ellison from thirdbase with one-out in the bottom of the seventh inning for the game-winning run. Makayla Bacon fanned 10 batters and allowed just two hits, to Alyshia Murray and Katie Sovie, outdueling Murray who fanned five in a four-hitter. Dakota Bacon, Ellison, Finnerty and Rice singled for E-K.
Morristown 10, Clifton-Fine 0: Taylor Piercey allowed just two hits - singles to Kristin Meek and Delaney Kerr - in a complete game shutout.
Jessica Geddes belted a three run homerun and ripped a single for Morristown. Liz Troiano, Margret Troiano, and Sam Green each singled twice.
H-D 12, Harrisville 8: An eleven run fourth inning lifted the Demons. Courtney Harrington stroked three singles and pitched an eight-strikeout complete game - .
Brooke Woodrow added two timely hits in the win while Clarisa Davis rapped a double. Hannah Weaver stroked a triple and a single and Jena Soper added two singles for Harrisville.
