Hit song honors killed Fort Drum soldier, Medal of Honor recipient

A chart-topping country song was written in honor of Fort Drum soldier Sgt. 1st Class Jared C. Monti, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2006 and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2009.

Songwriter Connie Harrington, Nashville, Tenn., told NPR she wrote the song, “I Drive Your Truck,” with two partners after hearing a radio interview with Sgt. Monti’s father, Paul.

The song, performed by Lee Brice, reached the top of Billboard’s Country Airplay chart in April. Ms. Harrington and Mr. Monti met on May 13 to mark the song’s success in Nashville.

Sgt. Monti was a member of the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.
