Ogdensburg officer faces harassment charge in Canton

CANTON — An Ogdensburg police officer is facing a harassment charge in the village after he allegedly banged on a stranger’s apartment door one Saturday night this month.

Corey J. Maxner, 26, Canton, was issued a criminal summons citing second-degree harassment following the May 11 incident, interim village Police Chief Victor N. Rycroft confirmed Monday.

Chief Rycroft said Mr. Maxner was “highly intoxicated” at the time of the incident, although no blood alcohol test was performed.

Ogdensburg Police Chief Richard J. Polniak Jr. said Mr. Maxner initially was placed on administrative leave for three days. He has since returned to work, Chief Polniak said.

He said disciplinary action will not be taken pending the outcome of the charge, while it remains an allegation.

Mr. Maxner joined the force in January 2011.

He is due to appear Wednesday in Village Court.
