Mrs. Isabelle A. Kearns, age 98 of Potsdam, NY passed away on Friday, May 17th, surround by her loving family, at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital where she was admitted earlier that day.
Mrs. Isabelle A. Kearns was born on August 31, 1914 in New York City, New York to the late George E. and Barbara E. (Lohman) Rothert. On February 15, 1941 she married Waldo Joseph Kearns in Elkton, Maryland. Isabelle was employed by Long Island Lighting and for Columbia Pictures in the NYC area. In 1946, she and her husband opened Kearns Hardware. She was employed by Douglas Insurance Agency, Montgomery Wards, Clarkson University – Food Service and the Tip Top Bread Store. Isabelle was a longtime member of St. Marys Church in Potsdam. She was formerly in Home Bureau, Debra Drive Senior Citizens Club, Potsdam Sandstoners Senior Citizens Club, Mayfield Senior Club, and at one time volunteered at he the office at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Isabelle is survived by her children: Valeria (Randy) LaGarry of Massena, NY, Walter (Mary) Kearns of Salina, Kansas, and Ann (John) Bush, Las Vegas, Nevada, eighteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Waldo, who passed away on January 21, 1986, her parents, four sisters and one brother.
Isabelle was a wonderful lady, so full of love, living a long and happy life. She was known for remembering everyone in the family, as well as friends. There wasnt a birthday or anniversary that went by that she forgot. She really enjoyed spending time with her family, leaving us all with special memories. She enjoyed needlework, watching sports on TV and walking. She loved walking around the Mayfield complex and meeting and visiting with everyone she met leaving them with a bit of humor, which she even did the day before she passed.
Due to Isabelles wishes there will be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be scheduled in July, 2013 at St. Marys Church, Potsdam, NY with burial immediately following at Bayside Cemetery. Contributions in her memory can be made to St. Marys Church, Potsdam or Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department.
