Indian River student arrested at school Monday morning

PHILADELPHIA — Justus I. Reed, 17, a student at Indian River Central School, was arrested by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies at 9 a.m. Monday at the school, 32925 Route 11, following an altercation in the main lobby. Mr. Reed resides on Fort Drum, but police did not indicate a specific address.

Deputy Michael G. Schryver, who responded to the incident, said Mr. Reed was ordered by staff to leave the school for being loud and using profanity, but he refused. When an attempt to arrest the student was made, “He pulled away and swung his fist at my chin,” Mr. Schryver said.

Mr. Reed was charged with disorderly conduct, destruction of property, second-degree harassment and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Philadelphia Town Court and taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, on $200 bail. He is scheduled to reappear Town Court.
