List, descriptions of ships at Tall Ships 1812 Tour in Brockville


The ships scheduled to take part in next month’s Tall Ships 1812 Tour in Brockville, Ontario:

f The Sorlandet: The world’s oldest and best kept full-rigged ship is based in Kristiansand in southern Norway. It was built in 1927. It’s 186 feet long and has a mast height of 111 feet.

f Pride of Baltimore II: This ship, launched in 1988, is 96 feet long and has a mast height of 107 feet.

f Fair Jeanne: This ship is operated by Ottawa-based Bytown Brigantine. It’s 110 feet long and its mast height is 80 feet. It was launched in 1980.

f La Revenante: This is a 64-foot replica of a New England “pinky schooner” launched in Kingston, Ontario, in 2010 following a four-year renovation. Its homeport is Kingston.

f Liana’s Ransom: This “replica pirate” ship, based in the British Virgin Islands, is an 85-foot schooner that was built in 1998 in Houston. Its mast height is 75 feet.

f Mist of Avalon: This schooner began its life in 1967 in Nova Scotia as the motor vessel Liverpool Bay. It was later converted to a fully rigged sailing vessel. It’s 74 feet long with a mast height of 63 feet.

f St. Lawrence II: This 72-foot long brigantine (a two-masted ship, square-rigged on the foremast and having a fore-and-aft mainsail with square upper sails) is based in Kingston, Ontario, and is designed for the sole purpose of youth sail training. It has a mast height of 54 feet.

fUnicorn: This 110-foot-long schooner, built in Holland, is based at Clinton, N.J. It has a mast height of 96 feet. Unicorn partners with Sisters Under Sail, which calls its ship the only all-female crewed tall ship in the world.

f Peacemaker: This ship, originally named Avany, was built on a riverbank in southern Brazil using traditional methods and tropical hardwoods. It was launched in 1989. It’s 108 feet long and has a mast height of 123 feet. It’s home port is Brunswick, Ga.

f Empire Sandy: This ship provides chartered tours for the public from Toronto. It was built as a tugboat for war service by the British government in 1943. It was converted to a schooner after World War II. It’s 200 feet long with a rig height of 116 feet and it can carry up to 275 passengers.
