ADAMS The South Jefferson Chamber of Commerce will honor multiple businesses and nonprofits tonight at its annual awards dinner.
The chamber will recognize Fuccillo Auto Mall as the large business of the year, the Newton Dance Company as the small business of the year and the Adams Revitalization Committee as the nonprofit of the year.
Everybody that got it this year is very deserving, said Connie A. Elliott, president of the South Jeff Chamber of Commerce. She credited the three entities with supporting a number of projects in the southern part of the county.
Winners are selected by a small committee organized by the chamber, which includes previous winners of the awards.
Shawn L. Rowlands, corporate controller for the auto dealership group, said the recognition is a great thing, given that the Adams area is where the company, which now has dealerships across the state, got its start.
Were just glad people acknowledged that were a part of the community and well be here for a long, long time, Mrs. Rowlands said.
Allison I. Newton, who runs the dance studio and company with her husband, Gary, said receiving the award is very humbling.
Mrs. Newton graduated from South Jefferson Central School in 1991 and Jefferson Community College, Watertown, in 1993.
It means a lot more for it to come from the community since its the place where I grew up, she said. The school has about 150 students.
Ms. Elliott said she hopes the event, in its third year, can continue for several years.
We have a lot of deserving businesses around here, she said.
