Lewis County Public Health seeking owner of Deer River dog

DEER RIVER — The Lewis County Public Health Agency is seeking the public’s assistance in finding the owner of a dog that has bitten a person.

The bite occurred on Wednesday evening off Route 26 in the Deer River area, according to a release from the county agency.

The dog — a black, white and brown collie/shepherd mix with long hair — has been captured and is being held at Countryside Veterinary Clinic in Lowville while awaiting identification by its owner.

It is necessary to determine whether the animal is current on its rabies vaccination, Public Health officials said.

Anyone with information on the dog or its owner is asked to call Countryside at 376-6563 or Lewis County Public Health at 376-5453.
