Stokes returns to coach Potsdam volleyball

POTSDAM — SUNY Potsdam announced Wednesday that Josh Stokes will return to the university as the new head volleyball coach.

Stokes will replace the departing Steve Pike, under whom he served as an assistant from 2009-10.

Stokes left Potsdam prior to the 2011 season to take a head coaching position with Southern Vermont College, where he coached both the men’s and women’s teams for three seasons.

Stokes posted a 69-19 record with the Mountaineers women’s team, and set a school record with 31 wins in 2011. He led the program to back-to-back New England Collegiate Conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, and was named the conference’s Coach of the Year in both seasons.

He won the same award with the men’s team in 2011 and is the all-time winningest coach in the men’s program.
