A Watertown man on Friday was accused of driving off after knocking over an ornamental light pole at 6:17 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of West Lynde Street.

Watertown police charged Steven L. Adams, 32, of 23783 White Road, with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, unsafe backing and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, answerable in City Court.

Police said Mr. Adams was backing out of a driveway at 214 W. Lynde St. when he backed into a city-owned pole, knocking it down, then left the scene.
