MIDDLETOWN Persistent and often heavy rain caused the postponement of the first day of the NYSPHSAA track and field championship meet Friday.
The meet was called off about an hour before its scheduled 11:30 a.m. start. Large puddles were found in many spots of the track.
The meet will be condensed into one day today, beginning at 8:30 a.m. There are no start times for each event, rather the first event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the rest will follow in a list.
The meet will open with the boys pentathlon 110-meter hurdles. That will be followed by the boys 110 hurdles NYSPHSAA final, the girls pentathlon 100 hurdles, the girls NYSPHSAA 100 hurdles, the boys 3,200, the girls 3,000, the boys and girls NYSPHSAA 100, the boys and girls 400, the girls 100 hurdles Federation final, the boys 110 hurdles Federation final, the boys and girls 800, the boys steeplechase, the boys and girls 200 NYSPHSAA finals, the girls steeplechase, the boys 1,600, the girls 1,500, the boys and girls 100 Federation finals, the boys and girls 400 hurdles finals, the boys and girls 200 Federation finals, the boys and girls 3,200 relays, the boys and girls 400 relays and the boys and girls 1,600 relays.
All of the field events start at 8:30 a.m. If a girls event is first, the boys follow and vice-versa. Starting off will be the girls discus, boys shot put, boys triple jump, girls long jump and boys pole vault.
The boys pentathlon will high jump first, followed by the regular boys high jump and then the girls high jump.
The boys pentathlon order is 110 hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 1,500.
The girls pentathlon order is 100 hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump and 800.
OFA BASEBALL GAME NOW at 3
The New York State Baseball Committee announced on Friday night that the starting times for todays Class B final four games at Union-Endicott High School have been pushed back because of weather conditions.
The semifinal between third-ranked Ogdensburg Free Academy (13-2) and No. 1 Fredonia of Section 6 is now scheduled for 3 p.m.
That game will follow a noon start between Section 3 champion Clinton and Section 8 champion Wheatley. The state championship game is now scheduled for 6 p.m.
According to the latest weather reports, the heavy rains of the past two days are scheduled to pass out of the Binghamton area early this morning.
On Friday night, the final four teams in all classes were honored at a cookout at NYSEG Stadium, home of the Class AA Binghamton minor-league affiliate.
Radio coverage will be offered for the OFA game on two stations. ESPN Radio 1400 AM with Chris Spicer will have a pregame start at 2 p.m. with the first pitch starting at 3. CBS Sports 1470 AM with Chris Engel will begin with pregame at 2:40 p.m. All times are subject to change depending on weather.
