Collegiate baseball: Mohawk Valley blanks Watertown, 4-0


LITTLE FALLS — Jarid Dye struck out seven, gave only one hit and picked up the win in six shutout innings, and Jordan Friend belted a two-run home run in the fifth as the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs blanked the Watertown Rams, 4-0, in their Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League home opener Saturday at Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Willie Shaw went 2-for-4 and slapped a two-run single in the eighth inning for Mohawk Valley (1-1), which held Watertown to two hits.

Tanner Rahauser got the loss after working 7 2/3 innings and allowing four runs on five hits. Brad Rush doubled for the Rams (0-2), who loaded the bases in the sixth and seventh, but did not score.

Watertown will have its home opener 6 tonight at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds against Utica with fireworks afterward.
