New women’s clothing store coming to Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG – A new women’s clothing store is opening up in the city.

Construction crews were busy renovating 9,000 square feet of space in the Gateway Plaza, 981 Ford St. Extension, Wednesday.

Maurices, a women’s clothing chain which offers clothes in sizes 0 to 28, will move into the vacated space.

The space was previously rented by Fashion Bug, a low-priced women’s clothing chain.

Fashion Bug stores in Ogdensburg and Massena’s Harte Haven Shopping Center announced their closings after a corporate buyout in 2012 of Lane Bryant, owner Charming Shoppes Inc., by the Ascena Retail Groups.

Maurices is also owned by the Ascena Retail Groups.

There are over 800 Maurices stores located in 44 states across the country.

A representative from Nigro Companies Inc., Albany, the plaza’s owner, and Maurices did not return a call seeking comment as to when the store will officially open.
