A new womens clothing store is opening up in the city.
Construction crews on Wednesday were busy erecting a sign and renovating 9,000 square feet of space in the Gateway Plaza, 981 Ford St. Extension.
Maurices, a womens clothing chain which offers clothes in sizes 0 to 28, will move into the vacant space next to Price Chopper. The space was previously occupied by Fashion Bug, a womens clothing chain which closed.
Fashion Bug stores in Ogdensburg and Massenas Harte Haven Shopping Center announced their closings after a corporate buyout in 2012 of Lane Bryant, owner Charming Shoppes Inc., by the Ascena Retail Groups.
Maurices is also owned by the Ascena Retail Groups.
There are over 800 Maurices stores in 44 states.
A representative from Nigro Companies Inc., Albany, the plazas owner, and Maurices did not return a call seeking comment Wednesday on when the store will officially open.
