Bartenstein sparks CJ’s-Chip’s Place win with pair of second-half goals


LISBON - A pair of second-half goals by Scott Bartenstein sparked CJ’s-Chip’s Place to a 4-2 win on the road over Lisbon in North Country Men’s Summer Soccer action on Wednesday.

CJ’s-Chip’s Place opened the scoring when Alex Parker finished off a play set up by John Jones. Lisbon countered with the equalizer by Riane Fletcher before Zac Votra put CJ’s-Chip’s Place back on top after converting on a penalty kick.

The second half saw Bartenstein sandwich a pair of goals off assists by Rishi Thakur around an unassisted goal by Danielle Vallance.

Ben Steinberg made five saves working the crease for the win while Billy Gemmill turned aside 14 shots between the pipes for Lisbon.

In other games reported on Wednesday, Ogdensburg AMP downed Frary Funeral Home 4-2 and Canton Hoot Owl-NCSB stopped Pepsi-The Place 3-1 while Colton at SeaComm and CKON/Signs and Stitches at Massena Savings and Loan were postponed.

AMP 4, Frary’s 2: In Ogdensburg, Matt Bertinato netted a hattrick in the winning effort and JP Burns accounted for the other goal while Paul LaPlante, Nate Godell and Gian Rufa each earned solo helpers

Matt Gladle and Ian Amo fashioned the Frary goals.

Canton 3, Pepsi-The Place 1: Tyler Gallagher scored from Travis Jordan, Jamal Honore connected from Jordan, and Colby Young generated a goal from Repton Abrams for the Hoot Owl-NC Savings Bank. Jeff Hyde made eight saves backstopping the win.

Mike O’Neil scored the lone Pepsi-The Place goal from Grant Prudhomme.


The North Country Women’s Summer Soccer season got underway on Tuesday. In a pair of openers that were reported, Massena-based Fastenal-DQ outlasted Parishville-Potsdam 1-0 while North Country Collison and Dow Electric battled to a 1-1 draw.

Fastenal-DQ 1, P-P 0: Dominique Valancius converted off an assist from Bailey Fregoe to account for the only goal in a game played at the Parishville-Hopkinton Central varsity field.

Amp-Jreck 4, Frary’s 2: Amp-Jreck opened to a 2-0 lead as Matt Bertinato scored back to back with Paul LaPlante logging an assisst.

Frary’s cut the deficit to 2-1 on a Matt Gladle connection. JP Burns answered early in the second half for Amp-Jreck assisted by Nate Goodell. Ian Amo cut the deficit back to 3-2 before Bertinato scored from Gian Rufa to complete the hat trick.
