Avery, Johnson lead Colton-Pierrepont Class of 2013


COLTON - Colton-Pierrepont Central School is proud to announce the top academic achievers for 2013.

The valedictorian of the class of 2013 is Nicholas Avery. Nicholas is the son of Robin and Martin Avery of South Colton.

Nicholas was active in student government and had roles in the high school musical productions. Nicholas played soccer, lacrosse and basketball, earning Academic All-Northern Awards. Nicholas is also a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in many community service activities. His real passion, however, is for music. Nicholas plays the guitar and has taken multiple music performance and theory courses while at Colton-Pierrepont, including Music Technology, Rock Band, Music Theory and Jazz Improvisation.

Nicholas has been accepted to SUNY Potsdam and hopes to study at the Crane School of Music. He plans to major in Music and Business Administration and work in the Music Industry.

Salutatorian for the Class of 2013 is Isaiah Johnson. Isaiah is the son of Donald and Jacqueline Johnson, also of South Colton.

Isaiah has challenged himself with rigorous coursework, including AP U.S. History and AP World History, and will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma. Isaiah participated in Clarkson University’s Project Challenge and was involved in Student Government for all four years of high school. Isaiah was involved with several community service projects and he earned Academic All-Northern Awards while playing soccer and lacrosse. Isaiah participated in Whiz Quiz, worked on the school yearbook and became a sound technician for the school musical productions.

As part of the Allied Health program at BOCES Seaway Tech Center, Isaiah has had the opportunity to shadow in the Ambulatory Services, Operating Room and Medical Surgical Floors at Canton- Potsdam Hospital. Isaiah plans to attend Castleton State College in Vermont for a bachelor’s degree in Nursing and then continue his training to become a nurse anesthetist.
