OGDENSBURG The academic leaders for the class of 2013 at Ogdensburg Free Academy are John Morrison, valedictorian, and Mackenzie Comeau, salutatorian.
Mr. Morrison, son of John and Martha Morrision, Ogdensburg, has an academic average of 98.57.
He will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors, is eligible for a New York State Merit Award in Academic Excellence and has been nominated for the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award through the University of Rochester and also for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal for outstanding academic achievement and school and community leadership.
He has participated on several sports teams, including golf, baseball and football. Mr. Morrison received Academic All-Northern Awards and a sportsmanship award.
He is a member of Student Council, National Honor Society, Key Club, where he served as vice president, and has attended the schools academic banquet. He participated in an engineering internship through National Grid over the summer of 2012.
Mr. Morrison will attend LeMoyne College, Syracuse, to major in engineering.
Miss Comeau, daughter of Dr. Christopher and Christine Comeau, has an academic average of 97.91.
She will receive an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors and has achieved high honor roll all four years of high school. She serves as treasurer for National Honor Society, the Class of 2013 and Student Council.
She is a member of Key Club, yearbook committee, swim team and plays lacrosse and hockey, where she serves as team captain. Miss Comeau was a member of Section X All-Academic Team for swimming, lacrosse and hockey, was the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winner for the 2012-2013 hockey season and has played on the Potsdam Ice Storm Hockey team since ninth grade.
She has received the New York State Academic Excellence Scholarship.
Miss Comeau is enrolled in a dual enrollment program with SUNY Geneseo and the Dental School at the University at Buffalo.
