HOPKINTON State police charged Dean M. Lamphere, 60, of 2928C Route 11B, Hopkinton, with felony counts of third-degree promotion of prostitution and tampering with physical evidence Monday afternoon.
Troopers said their investigation is continuing and additional charges may be pending.
Court documents allege Mr. Lamphere paid and arranged for prostitutes to engage in sexual conduct with men between 2011 and May 2013. The women ranged in ages from 20 to 32. He also allegedly destroyed two video tapes that contained evidence supporting a promoting prostitution investigation. Troopers alleged Mr. Lamphere burned those videos in a fire pit behind his garage.
State police said Monday their investigation is in the infant stages. Police said the women involved in the ring allegedly owed Mr. Lamphere money and engaged in the sexual contact in exchange for having their debt written off.
He was arraigned by Massena Town Justice James M. Crandall and sent to the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton. He was released from jail early Monday evening after posting $10,000 bail.
