Man charged following road rage fight

POTSDAM — Village police said they charged a Norfolk man with multiple offenses following a fight near Maple and Pine streets that police blamed on road rage.

A verbal altercation between Kennin K. Snyder, 26, address not listed, and another motorist, who was not named, began after Mr. Snyder passed the other man’s vehicle, then braked suddenly before speeding up again and passing several other vehicles, police said. They said Mr. Snyder, who earlier had exchanged words with the alleged victim about his driving, later followed the man into the village limits and initiated the fight at a traffic light near the two streets.

During the incident, Mr. Snyder allegedly pulled the victim out of his truck and assaulted him, leaving him with several injuries, including a broken nose and multiple cuts and bruises.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, Mr. Snyder already had left. He was found later with the help of Norwood village police and St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.

Mr. Snyder, who complained of head and hand injuries, was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Police said he became combative at the hospital, raising his middle finger while being X-rayed and resisting hospital staff while they attempted to examine him.

Charged at 8:01 p.m. with second-degree assault, aggravated unlicensed driving, unlawful possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct, Mr. Snyder was arraigned in Potsdam Village Court and later released under supervision of probation. He also was issued a stay-away order for the alleged victim.
