CANTON - The FC Freeze U12 Girls soccer team raised its record to 4-1 with three wins over a four-day span last week.
Freeze 2, Lowville 0: On Friday, the Freeze came out strong against the home team Lowville (LCU), holding a 7-4 shot advantage through a scoreless first half. In the second half, the Freeze turned up the heat with Olivia Mace (Ohio) scoring within the first two minutes. Anourine Pullano (Parishville) quickly followed suite with FCs second goal.
Playing well on offense and defense were Delaney Hayes (Canton) with four shots on goals and Rylee Dennis (Maitland, Ontario) with three. Winning goalies were Katie Cowen (Potsdam) and Brooke Hayes (Parishville) with four and six saves respectively as the Freeze outshot LCU 16-10.
Freeze 4, Indian River Two 2:On Sunday evening FC Freeze outshot Indian River Two 28-14. Leading FC Freeze on both offense and defense was Dennis with two goals and five shots on goal. Denniss strong offense and defense had a positive impact on the game. In the first half Dennis scored early with an assist from Sophia Janoyan (Potsdam) to cut the deficit to 2-1 at halftime.
In the second half of play FC Freeze bumped up their level of play by scoring three unanswered goals. Pullanos strong kick found the back of the net with an assist from Gabrielle Jones (Potsdam). Not to be outdone by her teammate, Dennis drove another ball hard into the goal with an assist from Cowen. Shortly after that Janoyan scored as Jones threaded the ball through the defense. Goalie duties were shared by Jones with seven saves in the first half and Hayes with five saves in the second half.
The Freeze return to action this Friday when they take on Thousand Islands Soccer Club starting at 5:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence University.
Freeze 2, Indian River USCT2 1: Last Thursday, the Freeze played well and won their game against the host team Indian River United Soccer Club Team 2. Within the first four minutes of play, Mace scored with a blistering shot in the high left side of the net. Two minutes later, Jones fired in another ball in the opposite corner for the second goal.
Mace and Jones lead the teams offense as they continued taking shots on goal with five and three respectively. Cowen had two shots on goal before being assigned goalie for the second half (2 saves). In total FC Freeze had 13 shots on goal.
With five minutes remaining in the game Indian River Team 2 scored their only goal.Outstanding defense was provided by Brooke Hayes and Erica Sloan (Parishville), who helped limit their opponent to a merethree shots on goal.
