MALONE - The Norfolk Post 925 Rovers relayed a potent start into a 12-6 win on the road over Malone in an American Legion 19-Under Baseball game played at the airport field on Thursday.
The Rovers took early control scoring five runs in each of their first two at-bats en route to building a commanding 10-1 lead. Malone scored three times in the third before the teams traded runs the rest of the way.
Rory Corcoran went six strong innings to record the win. He fanned seven and walked two while giving up six hits and just three unearned runs. Tyler Haas came on to provide a scoreless seventh inning of relief where he notched one strikeout. Austin Lamay was tagged with the loss. Jacob St. Mary pitched well in relief.
The duo of Brandon Noble and David Phillips anchored the Rovers offense. Noble had three hits, including a two-run double in the second, scored twice and drove in a total of four runs while Phillips stroked a pair of doubles, came around to score three times and tallied three RBI. Jordan LaShomb also made lead contributions with a single, double and three runs scored. Isaiah Dillabough and Connor Paquin both singled and scored a run while Corcoran and Haas each drilled RBI-singles.
Alex Johnson had two hits and scored twice for Malone. Adam Martin doubled and scored a pair of runs while Brandon Welch singled and scored once.
Now 2-5, the Rovers return to action next Tuesday when they play host to Malone at Memorial Field in Raymondville starting at 6 p.m.
