WATERTOWN - Gladys “Marie” Paro, 88 of West Main Street died Friday June 21, 2013 at the Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown.

Born November 28, 1924 at Tanners Corners,, she attended a one room school house at Tanners Corners, country schools in Watertown and Brownville, Brownville High School and South Junior in Watertown, graduating from Copenhagen High School.She married Carl W. Parl on May 8, 1944 in Jamestown, PA. Mrs. Paro lived with her sister in New Castle, PA while her husband served in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge the couple moved to the area, including Carthage, Theresa, Pillar Point and Watertown. Mr. Paro died March 8, 2010.Mrs. Paro was employed with the House of the Good Samaritan Hospital, now Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown for twenty five years as a nurse’s aid, eighteen years in Pediatrics. She also worked at Carthage Area Hospital for two years, retiring in 1988. For sixteen years following her retirement she was a volunteer driver for the Jefferson County Department of Social Services.She enjoyed flower gardening, her cats and dog, was a member of the Omar and Dexter Grange and a communicant of the First United Methodist Church on Mullin Street.Survivors include two daughters, Tracey David and companion Larry Brown, Sr., Watertown and Marie and Edwin Sykes, Dexter; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren. Three sons, Carl W., Jr., John H., II and Bruce E. and two grandsons, John Henry II and Martin; a sister, Mildred M. Backus all died before her.A graveside service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at North Watertown Cemetery, Watertown with Rev. Joyce Woodcock officiating. Arrangements are with Frederick Bros.
