BELLEVILLE Firefighters battled a silo blaze Tuesday morning at Belleview Farms and Stables, 7678 Route 289, and stayed on scene until the structure, which was deemed a total loss, was demolished, according to owners of the farm. There were no injuries.
The silo contained hay, according to Belleville Fire Chief Scott Lennox. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
He said his department received the call about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday and had the fire under control and contained by 11 a.m. but stayed on the scene until 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Janet L. Abbott, who owns the farm with her husband, Joseph D., said the couple hired someone to pull down the structure because it was in danger of collapsing. Mrs. Abbott declined to say whether the property was insured.
Mutual aid was provided by Smithville, Ellisburg and Adams departments, though only the Belleville firefighters remained at the scene throughout the day, according to Mr. Lennox.
