Sandy Creeks Chelsea Claflin and Heuveltons Hannah Thornhill each made the first team of their respective all-state softball squads, announced by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports.
Claflin, a senior pitcher who helped lead the Comets to the state final earlier this month, was a first-team pick in Class C. Thornhill, a freshman catcher with the Bulldogs, made the first team in Class D. Both were Times All-North first-team selections.
Claflin, the Times Frontier League MVP, finished with a 16-2 record for the 22-2 Comets, who lost to Frewsburg in the state championship game. She struck out 199 batters and registered a 0.36 ERA. At the plate, she batted .377.
Thornhill, in her third year on varsity, batted .548 with a .947 slugging percentage and 34 RBIs.
Claflins teammate, Jordan Miller, made the second team in Class C. The Comets Karintha Myslivecek made the third team. St. Lawrence pitcher Lindsey Thayer, the Times All-North Northern Athletic Conference MVP, was selected to the second team.
South Jefferson catcher Jackie Decker received second-team mention in Class B. Katie Pitkin and Hope VanBrocklin, of General Brown, were listed on the third and fourth teams, respectively. South Jefferson pitcher Brooke LaLone made the fifth team in Class B, as did Altmar-Parish-Williamstown pitcher Tori Stanton.
In Class D, Parishville-Hopkinton shortstop Kodi Perkins reached the second team. Chateaugay pitcher Courtney Boyea was selected to the third team.
Sandy Creek finished second in the final Class C state rankings. St. Lawrence was seventh. General Brown placed eighth in Class B and Canton was 18th. Heuvelton finished the season ranked ninth in Class D. LaFargeville placed 11th and Chateaugay was 19th. In Class A, Malone finished 12th.
