STAR LAKE - Organizers of the second annual Clifton-Fine Hospital Wilderness Foundation Golf Tournament are looking for businesses, civic groups or individuals to sponsor a hole to help raise money for the hospital.

The tourney will be held Aug. 3 at the Clifton-Fine Municipal Golf Course on Rt. 3. A dinner will follow the tournament for golfers and their guests. Those interested in being a sponsor should contact Elizabeth Cooper, director of development for the Wilderness Healthcare Foundation of the Clifton-Fine Hospital, at (315) 848-4304 or ecooper@cliftonfine.net, or Bob Raymo at 848-3714 or raymo@northnet.org

To register for the golf tournament, visit www.cliftonfinehospital.org . Space is limited and teams will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

This event is named in honor of two dedicated supporters of the hospital’s recent building campaign who both passed away in 2012 - Gary Goolden and Dr. Richard Narkewicz.

A native of Canton, Mr. Goolden taught social studies at Ogdensburg Free Academy for 35 years and was the school’s varsity hockey coach for 10 years. He was an active member of the Cranberry Lake community, serving as a volunteer firefighter for the Cranberry Lake Fire and Rescue Department and was a past member of the Clifton-Fine Lions Club. While in retirement, he also was a substitute teacher at Clifton-Fine Central School.

Dr. Narkewicz operated a pediatrics practice in Burlington, Vt. for many years and was an advocate for the Clifton-Fine Hospital for many years. His family owned summer residence in Wanakena for decades where he and his family enjoyed their summers.

“The fact is these two true friends are being honored for the work they did for this community,” stated Mr. Raymo.
