Other nature center activities available

The Nature Up North project ( very much appreciates the write-up we received in the Watertown Daily Times (North country initiative connects residents with nature) on June 19.

However, I need to correct a misquote attributed to me in that article. The reporter quoted me as indicating that there were not any “active” nature centers in our area. Both Indian Creek Nature Center and the Friends of Robert Moses State Park Nature Center, as well as the North Country Children’s Museum, are actively engaged in nature-based education for a variety of age groups.

There are likely other organizations making these efforts as well. In fact, what I said was that there were no bricks and mortar nature centers (places with physical buildings and permanent exhibits) in St. Lawrence County.

As a result, Nature Up North aims to provide a virtual nature center by using a website as a clearinghouse for information about nature-based educational and recreational activities in Northern New York.
