Collegiate baseball: Rams beat Pioneers for fifth straight win


ELMIRA — The Watertown Rams used a six-run fourth inning and former Immaculate Heart Central product Anthony Magovney hurled five scoreless innings as they stretched their winning streak to a season-high five games with a 9-1 win over the Elmira Pioneers in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League play at Dunn Field on Sunday.

Watertown remains is sole possession of first place in the Western Division at 10-10 and is a game ahead of second-place Utica (8-10).

Magovney struck out three and allowed only two hits, while Bobby Indeglia and Bryce Greager each delivered two RBIs for the Rams. Austin Lueck and Justin Protacio both went 3-for-4.

Elmira (8-11) was sparked by leadoff man Chris Kalousdian, who went 2-for-4.

A doubleheader was scheduled, but the second game was postponed due to rain and will be made up at a later date. The first game was delayed over an hour due to heavy rain.

Watertown travels to Newark (8-13) to take on the Pilots at 7:15 tonight, and will return home to the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds on Tuesday to take on the Adirondack Trail Blazers (7-12) at 7 p.m.
