MASSENA - J. William Leary Family and Consumer Science teacher Anne Root recently attended a special getaway for environmental, conservation, forestry and culinary instructors and counselors at Paul Smiths College.
Ms. Root joined with other participants in getting an up-close view of the Paul Smiths College experience. During the two-day visit, they saw the colleges state-of-the-art equipment, classrooms and labs; toured the lake-side Adirondack campus; and enjoyed some rest and relaxation with canoeing, hiking, stargazing or relaxing by the water.
The visit included lunch, a barbecue dinner and accommodations in the colleges premium apartment suites.
In return, college officials asked those who attended to return to their classrooms and share their Paul Smiths College knowledge and experience with their students.
Ms. Root had earlier been selected to represent the North Country Central Region on the New York State Association of Family & Consumer Sciences Professional Development Leadership Team for 2012-13.
Ms. Root volunteered her time during the school year for three days of training on a variety of teaching topics. She served as a part of a professional development team whose mission was to raise standards in both teaching and learning in Family and Consumer Sciences programs and to support the New York State Learning Standards in other content areas.
Annes willingness to devote her time and energy to encourage exceptional teaching and learning in our profession is commended, Principal Jesse Coburn said.
