CANTON - The FC Freeze U18 and U16 boys soccer teams gained a Northern New York Youth Soccer League sweep over their Upstate United counterparts on Monday in a double-header played on the SLU campus.

U18 BOYS MOVE TO 4-0

The FC Freeze U18 boys team improved to 4-0 on the season and gained a stranglehold on first place in the Northern New York Youth Soccer League after outlasting Upstate United 7-4 on Monday in their home debut.

Upstate opened the game with two quick goals, but the Freeze bounced back to tie on goals by Sharlow from Alex Harcourt (Colton) and Pat Normandin (Potsdam) unassisted. Loren Traynor (Brushton) scored from Matt Mende (Canton) to give the Freeze the lead, but Upstate ended the first half with two goals to take a 4-3 lead.

The second half, however, belonged to the Freeze. Sharlow tied the game from Beattie and Ian Vitek (Potsdam) netted the game-winner from Mende. Beattie scored from Normandin and Sharlow scored from Normandin to close out the scoring.

In a game played last Thursday, the Freeze downed General Brown 5-0 at General Brown. Nate Peo (Ogdensburg) and Aaron Sharlow (Malone) scored two goals each, with Mitch Beattie (Ontario) getting the other goal. Scott Wight (Canton) was outstanding in goal, stopping a pair of penalty kicks en route to securing the shutout.

The Freeze play against Thousand Islands July 11 in LaFargeville.

U16 BOYS CRUISE

The FC Freeze U16 Boys team posted its third straight win climbing to 4-2-1 in NNYSL action with a 7-0 victory over their Watertown rivals. Ogdensburg’s Peyton Lalone tallied a three-goal hat tick and recorded an assist from a corner kick to lead the offense with Matt Stone (Potsdam), Kane Jordan (Lisbon), Dave Caamaino (Potsdam) and Riley Doyle (Colton-Pierrepont) all finding the back of the net. Tyler Robinson (M-W) recorded two assists while Keegan Sovay (Canton) and Ben Hammond (Ogdensburg) added one set-up. Tristan Vine (Lisbon) and Adam Kelley (Lisbon) combined to make six saves sharing crease duties in the shutout.

The locals will look to avenge an early season 3-1 defeat when they host the 6-1 NOSC Pirates of South Jefferson next Monday at the SLU field starting at 6 p.m.
