Acoustic Brothers join Morristown party

MORRISTOWN - The Acoustic Brothers will provide the entertainment for this Saturday evening’s block party in downtown Morristown.

The event starts at 7 p.m. on Main Street in front of the Gateway Museum. Initially favoring the Beatles, the boys have now branched out, playing a wide range of tunes, mostly from the 1950s and 70s.

They play classics such as Stairway to Heaven, House of the Rising Sun, Sweet Home Alabama, Hotel California, Folsom Prison Blues, Free Bird, and more.

The band won awards and talent shows for their musical ability including the 2011 Jules of Life St. Lawrence Talent Challenge champions. They have performed at the New York State Fair for the past two years. The members of The Acoustic Brothers are Jeff Mott, drums; Jacob Barney, bass guitar; Austin Scott, lead guitar; and Alex Hammond, lead vocals and rhythm guitar.

Food will be available at the block party. There is no charge for admission although donations will be accepted. In the event of rain the event will be held inside the museum in the Spilman Auditorium on the second floor.

This event is made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, administered in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.

The following is the museum’s full summer concert lineup:

July 15 – Northern Lights Orchestra.

July 22 – Paul Knowles Combo with Sam Hopkins

July 29 – The Atkinson Family Bluegrass Band

Aug. 5 – Dale Streeter and Mike White

Aug. 12 – Bill Vitek and Dan Gagliardi, A Fine Line

Aug. 19 – Barbara Heller

All the Monday evening concerts start at 7 p.m. and are scheduled for the gazebo in Chapman Park on Morris Street near the fire station. They will be moved to the auditorium in the Gateway Museum in case of bad weather.
