LAFARGEVILLE — A Clayton man faces charges on Wednesday after he allegedly pointed a gun at an unidentified person and then fled on foot, causing police to search for him for hours,

Steel A, Angus, 25, was charged by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday morning with second-degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.

At about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mr. Steel pointed the gun at the person during the presence of a 3-year-old child at the Route 180 residence, investigators said.

He then fled the scene on foot into some nearby woods. Hours later, deputies received information that he was at a Route 180 residence, where he was arrested, they said.

Four LaFargeville men were also arrested Tuesday night in connection to the incident. The arrests stem from the men interfering with sheriff’s deputies investigating a report of a man with a weapon in a building on Route 180 in LaFargeville. The gun was not recovered.

The men either refused to leave the area or fought with deputies while deputies were pursuing a man with a weapon at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Arrested were:

n Frederick M. Angus Jr., 47, of Route 180, LaFargeville, who was charged with second-degree obstruction of government administration and resisting arrest. Mr. Angus is accused of unlawfully trying to enter the building. Deputies also said he fought with them during his arrest.

n Frederick M. Angus, 70, of 19560 Woodard Rd., who was charged with second-degree obstruction of government administration. Deputies said Mr. Angus ignored orders by deputies to leave the area and he unlawfully entered the building.

n Shawn M. Lawler, 41, of 32324 Wilder Rd., LaFargeville, who was charged with second-degree obstruction of government administration and resisting arrest. Mr. Lawler came at deputies in a threatening manner while they were arresting his friend and ignored orders to leave the area, they said. He also refused to get into a patrol car, deputies said.

n Mason M. Angus, 19, of 19428 Robinson Road, Clayton, who was charged with second-degree obstruction of government administration and resisting arrest. Mr. Angus went under police tape and then began fighting with police after being told he was under arrest, deputies said.

The four men were each issued appearance tickets for July 23 in Orleans Town Court.
