The 53rd Annual Ogdensburg Seaway Festival will begin July 20-28 and will offer many outdoor activities for young and old sports enthusists.
Kicking off the nine day event will be the 32 Annual Remington Canoe Race on July 20 at 9 a.m. along with the Stewarts Shop sponsored Childrenss Fishing Derby at 9:30 p.m.
A adult horseshoe tournament is also slated in the Greenbelt opening day along with kids games in the park sponored by the Ogdensburg Fire Department.
On Sunday, July 21, the Annual Maple City Trail Tun-Walk run will be held along with the Sandbar Fishing Challenge and Oswegatchie Golf Challenge.

The Ogdensburg Seaway Festival Horseshoe Tournament is still seeking teams and players to compete in this Saturdays annual event held in the Greenbelt area on the west side of the municipal swimming pool.
The tournament has been a staple for the sporting events which are held on the first weekend of the festival. Play will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until the singles and doubles champions are crowned. The format will be a two-man tournament with a drawing for partners, followed by a singles tournament. Women are welcome to play and horseshoes will be provided.
Trophies will be presented for first and second place in each event. For more information, contact Tim Ashley at 393-3923.
REMINGTON CANOE RACE
The 32nd annual Frederic Remington Race will be held Saturday, July 20 as part of the Ogdensburg International Seaway Festival. The course will run from Heuvelton to Ogdensburg (approximately 12 miles), and USCA and NYCRA rules will be used.
A registration session will be held Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the Ed Dobisky Visitors Center.
The race starts at the Boat Launch in Heuvelton at 9 a.m. (follow the signs in Heuvelton) and proceeds down the Oswegatchie River to Ogdensburg.
There will be recreational and competition classes participating in the race. The first 60 contestants will receive shirts at registration. Participants who do not receive a shirt, one will be ordered at a cost of $1.50 to cover the cost of mailing. The registration fee is $10 per participant in US funds.
All contestants must sign the waiver forms. The parent or guardian must also sign waiver forms with minors.

The awards will be presented at approximately 1:15 p.m. at the finish line area. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages are allowed.
CHILDRENS FISHING DERBY
The Childrens Fishing Derby will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. on July 20 at the city docks. The event always draw a huge throng of anglers looking to place among the leaders and win a new bicycle.
A large supply of prizes will be drawn at the awards ceremony and bait (worms) will be provided for all anglers. The angler entering the heaviest fish receives a free mount for Larry Vielhauers Taxidermy.
MAPLE CITY TRAIL RUN-WALK FUN RUN
The Ogdensburg International Seaway Festival 4-Mile Maple City Trail Run-Walk will be held on Sunday July 21 and will begin and end at the Edwin Dobisky Visitor Center.
The starting time is 9 a.m. and will follow the Maple City Trail. The entry fee is $10 payable to the Seaway Festival 4 Miler, C/O Race day registration is offered.
Trophies will be presented to the overall winners in both male and female divisions. Medals will be presented to first place and certificates to the second and third place male and female finishers in each of the following divisions: Walkers, Youth (14 & under), High school (15-19), 20-29,30-39,40-49,50-59, 60-69, 70 and over. The First 150 registrants will be guaranteed a commemorative T-Shirt. Specific sizes cannot be guaranteed due to unknown numbers of registrants.
Refreshments will accompany the awards ceremony.
A One Mile Race for youth 13 and under will begin at 8:30 a.m. Ribbons will be awarded to the top six boys and girls.
The Oswegatchie and Sandbunker Challenger will both be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 21 at Trafalgar Park.
In the Oswegatchie Challenge golfers play shots from a tee in Trafalgar Park over the Oswegatchie River to a green in Crescent Park .
Cash prizes are awarded in the Mens, Womens and Youth Divisions and there is an overall closest to the pin contest. The event was founded many years ago by Ron Driscoll and no golfer has yet to record a hole in one.
The Sandbunker Challenge is held in Trafalgar Park with participants staging a closest to the pin contest out of a sandbunker.
The Ogdensburg Lions Club directs both events.
SANDBAR FISHING CLASSIC
The Ogdensburg Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting its second annual Sandbar Classic Fishing Derby on Sunday, July 21 .
Each angler can only submit one fish from each of the categories they register for. Each fish entered will be weighed and its length recorded. Winners will be determined by weight. If a tie, the length will determine the winner. All weighing of fish will take place at Hosmers Marina. This year, there will be a youth division as well for bass and perch. Registration for youth is $5. Prizes and awards will be provided by the family of the late Al OMarah who will also be sponsoring the annual Al OMarah Lunker Award for the angler catching the heaviest bass.
Fishing is on the St. Lawrence River only.
Registration can be made prior to tournament at the Dobisky Visitors Center, 100 Riverside Ave., or the morning of the tournament at Hosmers Marina from 6 to 7 a.m. when fishing begins. The tournament will end at 3 p.m. when the winners will be announced and the trophiesand prizes will be awarded.
The first 85 participants that sign-up will receive a event Tee-Shirt.
