Local Jefferson Community College students will see a 3 to 4 percent increase in their tuition in the fall.
At Wednesdays board of trustees meeting, full-time tuition of $3,864 per year and $161 per credit hour for part-time students within the sponsorship area was approved unanimously.
A modest increase is the goal of the board, board member Daniel J. Villa said. The budget process is difficult every year.
For out-of-area students, full-time tuition will be $5,834, an 8.2 percent increase, for the year, and part-time students will pay $244 per credit hour, an 8.4 percent increase.
The tuition rates for local students in the 2012-13 school year were $3,744 per year for full-time students and $155 per credit hour for part-time students, according to the school website. For out-of-area students, the tuition was $5,394 for full-time students per year and $225 per credit hour for part-time students.
The increase for local full-time students is 3.2 percent, or $120. For local part-time students, the increase is 3.8 percent, or $6 per credit hour.
I think its been five years straight that weve seen an increase, said Daniel J. Dupee II, vice president for administration and finance.
He said tuition is developed after determining the expenses and the revenue in the budget. A difference between the two means the tuition will be raised.
According to the $27.9 million budget adopted by the board at the meeting, JCC is anticipating 2,112 local full-time students and 21,055 credit hours from local part-time students.
The budget also was approved by a unanimous vote without discussion. Mr. Dupee said he is happy with how the latest budget turned out.
