HERRINGS The archives project for which the village received funding is complete, Mayor Richard A. Beirman reported at Mondays village Board of Trustees meeting.
Last year, the village received a $5,546 Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund grant from the state. The village used the grant to purchase containers and pay Village Clerk Nancy J. Gerber to organize the documents.
Mr. Beirman said many of the village documents were damaged when the office flooded in 2009. All records that could be saved are now organized in storage boxes. The boxes, along with historical documents from the former village school, maps and the Crown Cleaner environmental study, will be housed in a room.
The village is constructing a fire-resistant, climate-controlled room in a storage area attached to the village office to keep the archives safe, according to the mayor.
