OGDENSBURG — A new fitness studio geared toward women has come to the city.

“I’m a mom, so I know the importance of taking time for you,” said Holly A. Francis, manager of Body Express, 800 State St. “Going to the gym is a great stress reliever.”

The grand opening of the studio, owned by Kelly M. Gonyea, was Monday.

With its colorful walls and upbeat music, Body Express is more laid back than most fitness centers, but it offers a serious workout.

There are 18 machines focused on cardiovascular health and muscle building to keep heart rates up.

“Many gyms don’t show you how to use the equipment,” Mrs. Francis said. “We’ll go through each machine and measure your comfort level.”

There are medicine balls, yoga mats and hand weights available for those who want to take a break from the everyday workout.

The gym offers full weight-loss support and muscle-building programs such as the Transition Life Style, a program designed to increase cardiovascular health. At Body Express, the program is run by life coach Clint L. Taylor.

Mrs. Francis is using the program herself. “I’ve lost 15 pounds in four weeks,” she said. “It’s a great program.”

Trainer Stacey Schroeder will be on hand throughout the week.

There are prize incentives, with coupons to Busters Sports Bar & Restaurant and Peebles department store available for when members meet their fitness goals.

Body Express also plans to offer fitness classes and packages in the future, Mrs. Francis said.

“We’ll also have themed days for holidays like Halloween,” she said. “It’s just one more way we try to make things fun.”

Mrs. Francis said she hopes the gym will one day be like the neighborhood beauty shop.

“I want it to be a comfortable place to come after work, feel great and be among friends,” she said.

To join the gym, there is a $30 annual registration fee; a $5 fee is charged for the use of the gym’s equipment.

Body Express is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

To schedule an appointment with the life coach, call 393-4117.
