FINEVIEW A 2-year-old boy suffered injuries to his hands when he fell into a fire pit Tuesday afternoon at Wellesley Island State Park.
The boy, whom state park officials would not identify, was flown by LifeNet helicopter to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, where he was treated and later released.
Daniel L. Keefe, a spokesman with the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, said the fire had been extinguished the night before but the coals were still hot when the boy tripped over some firewood and fell about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The incident occurred in one of the parks campgrounds, Mr. Keefe said. The boy, who lives in Sylvan Beach, was there camping with his family.
The Wellesley Island Fire Department, Wellesley Island Ambulance, Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service and state park police were called to the scene.
