Nail salon open for pampering in Waddington

WADDINGTON – The Nail Bar, 3022 County Route 28, is open for customers looking to be pampered.

Owner Amanda S. Barkley opened the shop out of her home to be near her 1-year old son and 9-year-old daughter.

“I thought it was a great business venture for someone like me who has two kids,” Mrs. Barkley said.

It’s also a way for her to meet new people while doing what she loves right from her own home.

“I like talking with people,” Mrs. Barkley said. “I love working with older women, and hearing their stories, and helping moms relieve stress. It’s all about making people feel good and better about themselves, no matter what is going on in their lives.”

For $15, customers can get a basic spa manicure. Spa pedicures are $30 each. Other services include paraffin, French, and shellac pedicures and manicures. Shellac, a new gel polish cured under an ultra violet lamp, lasts longer than the typical polish, Mrs. Barkley said.

“It can stay on for about two weeks, depending on how you care for your hands or your type of work,” Mrs. Barkley said. “A typical manicure can only last up to a week.”

Mrs. Barkley, a state-certified nail technician, attended the St. Lawrence-Lewis Board of Cooperative Educational Services’s nail technician program after high school.

In the future, Mrs. Barkley said, she hopes to expand her business to include waxing and acrylic nails. She also hopes to host girls’ birthday parties.

“I want my customers to feel relaxed and pampered,” Mrs. Barkley said. “I want them to enjoy themselves for the hour or so that they are here.”

A visit to The Nail Bar is by appointment only.

“I’m very flexible during the day,” Mrs. Barkley said. “Some evenings are available, also.”

To schedule an appointment, call Mrs. Barkley at 528-1366.
